Howdy Folks, my name's Randall. I've got a camp name of Blisters. Don't worry, it's not contagious, it's just what shows up after the work is done... I'm a member of the Living History Re-Enactors http://www.livhis.org We've been putting on encampments at Ft.Bellefontaine for a few years culminating with last year's Lewis & Clark Bicentennial homecoming. That's been pretty much of this greenhorn's trail in this lifestyle. There's more but I'll save that for around the campfire. Right now I'm beating a drum for our next september gatherin', it's moved. We're not at Ft.Belle this year, the Missouri Department of Conservation is our gracious host. Float on downstream 4 miles to Columbia Bottoms. When you get to the confluence of the missouri with the mississippi, put in on the right bank and join us for a little fun. We're noting the natural resources and historic significance of this site. The biggest whitetail buck in the state slept here. (Take that George Washington!) We're honoring the Spanish. They had forts here on both sides of the mouth of the Mo. They saved the United States by foiling a British western invasion of the colonies. Join us for a little fun at our new location. The September Ft.Belle isn't "Cancelled" as much as it's relocated. I'm new to this site, it looks like fun, lookin' to make the aquaintence of some fine folk. Good Health and Good Fortune to y'all! |

Thanks for dropping by and introducing yourself. If you wouldn't mind checking the event now that I have updated it I would appreciated it.
Glad to here that the event hasn't been canceled.

Your update is just fine. On behalf of all LHR, THANK YOU! Our good friends at the Hartford Ill. Lewis and Clark site are having a Garrison Weekend this coming week end, March 10 and 11 This is a must see place and this is a prime opportunity to do so. Learn a bit about 1804 army life and how the expedition came together before it's departure in the spring.
April 14,15 is the LHR spring encampment at Old St. Ferdinand Shrine in Old Florissant at the end of Rue St.Francois. Stop by for a visit and some fresh bread from our period correct bread oven. Mmmm.... |

Please submit the details for the april event to the gatherins list as I can't find any details on the LHR website.
That way everyone will hear about the event and I can post it in recurring years.
Thanks |

Matt! Hello again! Randall here, back from the Garrison week-end at Camp Dubois in Hartford. The weather was better than expected and there was a great public turnout. Besides the regular displays, we had a Military Parade of Uniforms also known as a fashion show. There was everything from a simple hemp workfrock all the way to Captain Clark's 1792 dress uniform complete with fantail hat decorated with a white plume. Here is the website listing of events for 2007. http://www.campdubois.com/events.html The most important of course would be those in Dec. and May reflecting the arrival and departure of the expedition from this site.
The LHR annual spring encampment April 13, 14, 15 is mentioned in this information about the Old St.Ferdinand Shrine http://www.usgennet.org/usa/mo/county/s ... dinand.htm The camp would be behind the north wing priest's quarters. This is almost like camping out in your back yard. We will be baking bread...follow your nose... |

Randall,
I visited the Garrison Saturday and probably saw you. What were you dressed as or where were you located. |

Randall,
I have a question that I was hoping you could answer, How do you become apart of the activities at Camp River Dubois?
Personally I have my hands full but I am sure there might be people interested. With the wealth of resources and talent in the Metro East area I would think that they would want to use some that to their advantage. But to an outsider it appears pretty closed off.
Let me know what you think. |

Matt, nice to have had you at Camp DuBois. I was told someone had commented about Mystic Buffalo, I had been telling everyone else about the website, this is a good thing. To answer your question, I was dressed as a soldier as was everyone out in the fort. The short fat red-faced guy. Clean-shaven with round silver rimmed bifocals. Most of the time I was wearing a work frock over my small clothes.
The principal contact people there are Dennis Nichols and Mike Stout. Pam and Brad are administrators, (Pam makes a mean blackberry pie!) These folks are all as friendly and approachable as can be. Ask anyone for Dennis or Mike and they will happily speak with you about participation.
I don't think there are any outsiders, they are just friends that havn't met yet.
I'm LHR first, that's my home association and responsibility. Participation is invited with us too. The Hartford site is a pure pleasure to support. The Detachment there are first class professionals who graciously have helped LHR beyond their realization. I am happy to return the favor as ultimately I learn more and have more fun doing so. They are actively looking for volunteers and would be happy to speak with anyone. Contact them with my regards, Randall. |

| Thanks for the information, if I ever get a minute I might look into it, but it's good information to have around in case someone else is interested. |
