Hi... Real name is Glenn and I'm looking for a place to shoot large bore blackpowder cartridge and muzzle loaders. Used to belong to the Piasa Blackpowder Burners, but just couldn't stand the bickering anymore. Last time I heard, the Flatlanders up at Rock Creek where gonna lose their shooting site. Know of anywhere else in the Alton area?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thanks..

Matt.... Thanks for the reply. Seems like there is a need for such a place, several others I've talked to have agreed. Was wondering about the Brighten Gun Club, if they allow black powder shooting. Most gun clubs anymore are for skeet shooting....what's the point?? Might as well shoot a duck. I've got 10 acres up the Illinois at Hardin, none of 'em flat enuff to shoot more than 10 feet in a level plane. I'm working on a guy that bought 20 acres near Brighton, if he agrees I'll let ya know.
Besides muzzle loaders, I've got an original Springfield trapdoor in 45-70 that I want to sight in, and a Navy Arms buffalo rifle with a 32" brass scope, never been fired, (by me.) Also got a Sharps reproduction percussion gun in 45 cal. that shoots pretty good, but needs alittle work. Been wanting to find some where to sight them in as winter is my slow time of year and I have more time off.
If I find some place, I'll post it on here so the other rondy-vouers will know. Keep yer powder dry...

Hoss Dog,
Hardin? That's interested my uncle owns some acreage on top the hill in Hardin. I need to sight my gun in also. I have shot it some, even competed, but have never sighted in so I don't know if it is even shooting where I am aiming.
Thanks for the update. |

| Don't know where you are, but if you feel like checking out a range out of state, try the Nebraska Muzzle Loaders Rifle Association. They are having their big Red, White and Blue shoot Memorial Day weekend at their range nw of Cairo NE. Real nice shoot, 80 acres with organized shooting and family activities, on the river front too. |

| Hi Guys and Gals, I know Piasa Black Powder Burners has a bad reputation for all the infighting in the club. But I know that it has settled down quite a bit now, we have several new members, and some of the old members that did a lot of the fighting and arguing have left. If you don't want to get in the politics of the club, pay your dues each year, then use the grounds as you see fit. Hell, for $36.00 a year - its hard to beat. Covered firing line, nice camping area. 40 acres of woods.(lots of deer and turkey). If you have never been there, let me know - I am free most week-ends. We can go up there a burn up some black powder, and you can see the place. |

| The grounds are right outside of Shipman. The road that divides the graveyard leads to the range. You go around the curve(left) where the Archey place is, then when you come to the next curve(right) you go straight on the gravel road to the dead end, and there is a gate to the club. I live in East Alton, and I can usually get there in about 20 minutes. |
