Fort Des Chartres Historic Site Closing Articles / Events Announcements Posted by stardust on Aug 29, 2008 - 08:46 PM The State is shutting down the Fort des Chartres historic site on Oct 1. due to the Great Illinois Budget Wars of '08. However, I have spoken with Tammy Duensing, who says they have given Daryl permission to hold rendezvous and F&I events on the grounds; there will be absolutely no state support for the events, no access to the museum or restrooms, and no state staff, though - all volunteer and camp-fee based for things such as firewood, johns, and trash pickup. Back to the Old Days, Folks! Maybe it will be good for our spirit; things have been getting a little soft over the last decade or so. I will try to post any news I hear about how the Fall Fort 'vous may be carried out.
