Flying Canoe Traders is a company that has been involved in reenactment since 1996. At the beginning making some clothing for her sister company, Animation d'Autrefois (www.animationdautrefois.com) who specialized in 18th century reenactment since 1995 for museum, movie business, convention and Parc Canada. But as you all know, Reenactment in Canada, especially in Quebec, is way behind you folks from the United States who have several years of experience. Well, to get Animation d'Autrefois started and properly geared up with a very small budget, I've tried to make everything by myself, and as you all know it never works on the first time (or if it does some of the results are questionable). Even if I was able to make part of the clothing my self, it was not as simple for the rest of the gear, accessories and weapon that I would need for my compagnie.

Dutch Oven Dave

Dave originally got his introduction to Dutch Ovens as an assistant Scoutmaster in the St. Louis area where he began using them with the Scouts in 1976. Several years later found him living in New York state and attending a Scouting adult leader training event called Wood Badge. During this training he was taught how to use the Dutch Oven properly and then he served as a staff member on two more courses and learned even more about using the Black Pot. An opportunity came along for him to serve as the Scoutmaster of the Greater Niagara Frontier Council Junior Leader Training Conference and for the next 4 years, serving as Scoutmaster and assistant Scoutmaster, he learned even more about the use and care of this wonderful cooking tool called the Dutch Oven.

I'm wild about Dutch oven cooking! Having been raised in Utah, which is most likely the Dutch oven capitol of the world, I guess it's no surprise. In July of 2002 I decided to publish this web page dedicated to promoting Dutch oven and outdoor camp cooking hoping that by sharing some general Dutch oven information, a few cooking tips, and a handful of recipes, others might benefit from this information.
This page is my internet gateway to Dutch oven cooking. From here you can get to any of my many pages about Dutch ovens and Dutch oven cooking. For your convenience I have placed a contents menu below to help you find the information you need a little faster.

We are a NMRA- Charter member.
Organization: Prairieland Frontiersmen, INC. is an Illinois not-for-profit corporation organized in 1975. The club is managed by a board of directors consisting of nine directors elected annually at large from the general ,membership in October of each year. The club's fiscal year is from October 1st to September 30th of the following year. At present, there are about 160 paying members in the club. The club is not strictly a primative Club, as buckskinners and "blue jean" shooters are about equally represented.

We have been involved with cannons, of some description or the other, for over 50 years. The old man built his first cannon when he was 10 or 11 years old. It was a simple thing built out of a pipe, a nail and bolt. He used a firecracker for propellant and a marble as a projectile. We stress the importance of safety and advise that you do not try this.
We are proud of our Cannons and Mortars and we are happy to be able to offer them at affordable prices. For a glimpse into the French Fur Trade Era, come visit the historic reenactor site of "Fort Bon Secours" (Fort of Good Aid and Assistance)! Fort Bon Secours was a Historical French Fort established by Nicholas Perrot in 1685 on the southwestern shores of Lake Pepin (Lake of Tears) across from the mouth of the Chippewa River (Riviere de Bon Secours). This location is in the proximity of Reeds Landing, Minnesota. The fort was occupied for approximately three to five years, and then was abandoned after Perrot was recalled from his western assignments in 1690. In 1697, Sieur Charles-Pierre La Sueur, the new commandant of the French fort at La Pointe (located on what is today Madeline Island in the Chequamegon Bay), built a second fort at this same site. The exact length of time this fort was occupied is uncertain, but it is believed to have been used for another three to five years. Subsequently, another three to five forts were built along the shores of Lake Pepin (a 35 mile long widening of the Mississippi River). The major reason for the French interest in this area was because at the time it served as the geographic center for a tribe of people know as the Sauntee Sioux or Eastern Sioux and more properly know today as the Dakota.

Our friends in the merchanting end of the Buckskinning/Colonial living history hobby complained that it was difficult to get good quality pewter to stock their stores with. Thus the partnership of The Dirk and Thistle Pewter Works was born in the Winter of 1993 to fill that void.
Since then we have come to specialize in Celtic and Colonial items ranging from period buttons, jewelry and medallions for both multi-period and modern events and clubs. Some of our proud accomplishments have been creating medallions for Events such as the NMLRA/NRLHF Primitive Regional Rendezvous, Great Trail Festival, Piqua Historical Society, Society for Creative Anacronisms, as well as many modern clubs and events.
