Flying Canoe Traders  Popular
Category : Start / Supplies / Clothing/Bedding
Flying Canoe Traders is a company that has been involved in reenactment since 1996. At the beginning making some clothing for her sister company, Animation d'Autrefois (www.animationdautrefois.com) who specialized in 18th century reenactment since 1995 for museum, movie business, convention and Parc Canada. But as you all know, Reenactment in Canada, especially in Quebec, is way behind you folks from the United States who have several years of experience. Well, to get Animation d'Autrefois started and properly geared up with a very small budget, I've tried to make everything by myself, and as you all know it never works on the first time (or if it does some of the results are questionable). Even if I was able to make part of the clothing my self, it was not as simple for the rest of the gear, accessories and weapon that I would need for my compagnie.

Dutch Oven Dave  Popular
Category : Start / Campfire Cookin'
Dave originally got his introduction to Dutch Ovens as an assistant Scoutmaster in the St. Louis area where he began using them with the Scouts in 1976. Several years later found him living in New York state and attending a Scouting adult leader training event called Wood Badge. During this training he was taught how to use the Dutch Oven properly and then he served as a staff member on two more courses and learned even more about using the Black Pot. An opportunity came along for him to serve as the Scoutmaster of the Greater Niagara Frontier Council Junior Leader Training Conference and for the next 4 years, serving as Scoutmaster and assistant Scoutmaster, he learned even more about the use and care of this wonderful cooking tool called the Dutch Oven.

Byron's Dutch Oven Cooking Page  Popular
Category : Start / Campfire Cookin'
I'm wild about Dutch oven cooking! Having been raised in Utah, which is most likely the Dutch oven capitol of the world, I guess it's no surprise. In July of 2002 I decided to publish this web page dedicated to promoting Dutch oven and outdoor camp cooking hoping that by sharing some general Dutch oven information, a few cooking tips, and a handful of recipes, others might benefit from this information. This page is my internet gateway to Dutch oven cooking. From here you can get to any of my many pages about Dutch ovens and Dutch oven cooking. For your convenience I have placed a contents menu below to help you find the information you need a little faster. Please take a look at my other Dutch oven related pages by using the menu to the left. Each of these pages contains a brief description of the information found on the page followed by a topics menu for easier browsing. I would like to get to know the people who stop by here and possibly learn something from them. If you have a moment, please sign my guest book and share some of your own Dutch oven cooking experiences with me. May your coals always burn HOT! -Byron

Our company has affordably priced, fully functional, Black Powder Cannons and Mortars. They can be small enough for desktop to 1/2 scale Napoleon. We can manufacture one that you will love. Many sizes and configurations are available. We are Certified by the N.C.W.A.A., The Forces of Montcalm and Wolfe Inc. We have been involved with cannons, of some description or the other, for over 50 years. The old man built his first cannon when he was 10 or 11 years old. It was a simple thing built out of a pipe, a nail and bolt. He used a firecracker for propellant and a marble as a projectile. We stress the importance of safety and advise that you do not try this. We are proud of our Cannons and Mortars and we are happy to be able to offer them at affordable prices. We will be more than happy to discuss your needs, to do our best to furnish what you want, and do this in a timely manner. Our operation is small and geared toward each customer, one at a time, with total satisfaction. All units are intended solely for fun and recreation. Any misuse or unsafe practices by the buyer or others are solely the responsibility of the buyers. Once purchased, these units are no longer the responsibility of the seller (BEARTRACK TRADING POST). Sorry, but we don't accept Credit Cards. We do have a 60 day lay-a-way plan, and we do take trades. Call for terms & conditions. All sales or inquiries are kept confidential. We do not share any information with others regarding your request or purchases

Fort Bon Secours  Popular
Category : Start / Clubs/Organizations
Fur Trade French and Indian War Click here to see a virtual tour of our Grand Hall For a glimpse into the French Fur Trade Era, come visit the historic reenactor site of "Fort Bon Secours" (Fort of Good Aid and Assistance)! Fort Bon Secours was a Historical French Fort established by Nicholas Perrot in 1685 on the southwestern shores of Lake Pepin (Lake of Tears) across from the mouth of the Chippewa River (Riviere de Bon Secours). This location is in the proximity of Reeds Landing, Minnesota. The fort was occupied for approximately three to five years, and then was abandoned after Perrot was recalled from his western assignments in 1690. In 1697, Sieur Charles-Pierre La Sueur, the new commandant of the French fort at La Pointe (located on what is today Madeline Island in the Chequamegon Bay), built a second fort at this same site. The exact length of time this fort was occupied is uncertain, but it is believed to have been used for another three to five years. Subsequently, another three to five forts were built along the shores of Lake Pepin (a 35 mile long widening of the Mississippi River). The major reason for the French interest in this area was because at the time it served as the geographic center for a tribe of people know as the Sauntee Sioux or Eastern Sioux and more properly know today as the Dakota.

Flatbranch Pickin Parlor  Popular
Category : Start / Clubs/Organizations
Flatbranch Pickin Parlor Joe has always been entranced by music of all kinds. Being a teenager in the 1970's sort of led him away from the roots of the old time stuff he grew up with. However, in the early 1980's he received his first fiddle for Christmas. From there it went like wildfire. Enter the mandolin, banjo, dulcimer, guitar, and mix that with a WIFE and you have a recipe for disaster. However, being so sweet and understanding (wife is writing this) she stuck it out for years and was happy when the noise finally turned pretty. THEN along came the idea of playing the BAGPIPES!! Well, wife said "I put up with all the other stuff you learned over the years and I am NOT going to listen to you learn the BAGPIPES!" Now when anyone asks Joe "What ever made you want to play the bagpipes?" He replies, "My wife said she would leave me if I ever started playing the pipes, BUT SHE'S STILL HERE!" Finally, after years of this Kathy finally decided, if you can't beat em' join em'. That is why we now have THE FLATBRANCH PICKIN PARLOR. Joe's dream is to have a gathering place where all kinds of musicians that play acoustic instruments can get together and play. He remembers the days when he was learning. A lady in Moweaqua named Mildred Perryman opened up her home to musicians every single Saturday night for about 25 years. This is where Joe learned to play. He was taken under the wing of Francis (Zeke) Zindel. Zeke taught him all about fiddle playing and woodworking. Sadly, Francis has passed on but he left many musical legacies behind him. Our dreams are for the Flatbranch Pickin Parlor to be just like Mildred's. A fun gathering place.

North Star West, Inc.  Popular
Category : Start / Supplies / Weapons
Suppliers of Flintlock Trade Guns Historically correct reproductions of 18th and 19th century smooth bore muzzleloading guns. Matt and Mary Denison began their buckskinning adventure in 1989 after accidentally coming upon a rendezvous on a vacation in Northern California. One of the trailwalkers showed Matt how to load and shoot a muzzleloading rifle. After taking careful aim and squeezing the trigger he hit that first gong and he was completely hooked. Over the next few years they became deeply involved in buckskinning. They joined the Diablo Buckskinners where they met Bob "Iron Jaw" & Claudia Rathbun. In 1992 Matt purchased a North Star West Trade Gun, "in the white", from Iron Jaw who patiently showed him how to finish and tune it to shoot it's best. That year he, Matt, was the #3 shooter in the club competing against 45 other shooters with rifles! Bob and Claudia took North Star West to their new home in Nevada and Matt and Mary moved to a log cabin in the Rocky Mountains of Western Montana. While in Montana they were instrumental in starting a local black powder club, booshwaying the first Sapphire Mountain Men rendezvous. An enthusiastic member of the N.R.A. the N.M.L.R.A. and several other local and national shooting associations, not to mention attendance at dozens of rendezvous and other black powder events, prepared him to become the current President of the local shooting and buckskinning club. Mary, besides being a shooter, is a natural born teacher. She conducts seminars on finger weaving and loves open fire cooking. She loves running the kids programs and handing out prizes to the children at the awards ceremony. Mary will often be seen teaching pilgrims how to properly load and shoot a muzzleloader and lecturing on gun safety. While Mary doesn't care much for sleeping in the snow with only one blanket and eating parched corn with black tea, Matt is passionate about historical trekking. Going out in the woods for the weekend with his trade gun, a blanket and a few pals is his idea of great fun. These outings always include an impromptu smoothbore match. Over the years Matt "Laffin Dog" stayed in contact with Iron Jaw, occasionally meeting up at rendezvous in the western states. When Iron Jaw told Matt & Mary that North Star West was for sale a spark was struck in the pan that would eventually result in Matt and Mary buying the business and moving it, lock, stock and barrel to their mountain home in Frenchtown, Montana. It is a perfect blend of life style and livelihood for Matt, who after training with "the master" Bob Rathbun hopes to continue producing historically correct, straight shooting trade guns in the tradition of Curly Gostomski, Iron Jaw and "the Crown". Mary's lifelong career as an accountant will ensure that all accounts are kept square and orders are processed correctly and accurately.

Welcome to the Web Site of the MORGAN COUNTY LONGRIFLES. Our club is best viewed with a steaming cup of coffee while warming yourself at one of our campfires. Unfortunately, we can't supply you with either the coffee or a campfire over the Internet, but please join us for a quick tour of our club. We are a non-profit club dedicated to preserving the era of the Muzzleloading rifle. We attempt to do this by using and maintaining traditional Muzzleloading firearms. Also, during many of our events we strive to practice the lifestyle of the American Frontier prior to 1840. Our range is located about 6 miles South of Martinsville, IN., and is surrounded on three sides by the Morgan-Monroe State Forrest, On the grounds we have both Primitive and Modern camping areas available. We hold monthly shoots that are normally scheduled on the second Sunday of each month. We hold a Rendezvous in the Spring, Fall and Winter each year, and a Two Day Shoot each Summer.
