Link profile: Nomadics Tipi Makers. Category: Start / Supplies / Lodging
Greetings...From Jeb, Harry and the Nomadics Crew.
We began our tipi making project 1970. It was born out of our interest, enthusiasm and respect for this magnificent shelter and the Native American cultures of the Great Plains that had created it.
The Native American Tipi provides a passageway back through time that allows us to actually experience some of the aspects of this unique nomadic culture of the Great Plains.
The tipi design we use is the basic Sioux design explained in the Laubin's book, The Indian Tipi. Drawn from our tipi living experiences in snow and below zero temperatures, coastal rain forests and hurricane force wind storms, we have added (1) greater reinforcing, (2) more durable and weather resistant fabrics, and (3) design variations such as the Blackfoot lift pole flap and the Cheyenne extensions on the smoke flaps.
