Fried Prarie Dog

Ingredients for 16 prarie dogs
Indian Fry Bread mixed and ready to use
2 packages Hot Dogs
Lard

Description
Place Lard in Dutch oven and heat until melted.

Prepare Fry Bread according to instructions. Let set 30 minutes or more (covered).

Divide the fry bread up into 16 balls of dough no bigger than the palm of your hand. Now, press the dough flat like a pizza crust. In the center of the dough place one hot dog. Fold fry bread around the hot dog covering it completely. Make sure to pinch the dough together so it will not come apart while frying.

Now, after preparing the prarie dogs place a few at a time in the hot lard. Fry until golden brown. Remove from hot lard and place on paper towels.

Serve warm.

Notes
We made these for the 1st time last year at Wilderness Days with the help of the boys and girls. I think they had as much fun telling everone that had ate prarie dogs as they did making them. Several mothers and fathers actually asked if we really did serve the kid prarie dogs.
